Dr. Reichel's grounded theory research resulted in the Mid-Career Professional Learning Design Framework which is illustrated by the graphic to the right. The components and the guiding questions are found below.
Intentionally reminiscent of a clock, the surrounding outline illustrates the necessity to consider the construct of time when planning professional development for mid-career teachers. The timepiece silhouette frames the three key considerations: learning that is contextualized, interactive, and led with expertise. MPDD offers both a theoretical framework describing mid-career teachers’ professional development needs and the companion application questions.

Design Framework
Intentional connection to the teacher's day-to-day professional experience including alignment to course content, systemic continuous improvement focus areas, and current events locally and nationally.
Intentional connection to the learning preferences of mid-career teachers including meaningful community building, craft-enhancing and idea-generating discourse, and activities that seek participation.
Intentional connection to the characteristics of adult learning theory, facilitators must demonstrate authentic expertise and a deep connection to the content being shared. They must provide appropriate movement and modeling while offering personalized opportunities where practitioners may extend their learning.
Experiences must demonstrate participants' time as a valuable and scarce resource, avoid transactional statements related to time, and situate learning experiences appropriately within the school calendar. Finally, the experience must offer ample time for educators to consider and reflect to integrate concepts with their strong foundational schema.
